Two Types of Fire Alarms

When it comes to fire alarms for your Ohio business or home, you will generally have two choices: ionization and photoelectric. Both of these types of fire alarms have their advantages, so we thought we would give you a brief overview of both of them and how they work. Ionization fire alarms are generally more responsive to fires that are already flaming. There is a tiny amount of radioactive material that is in between two plates that are electrically charged. The two plates are connected to a battery. The plates ionize the air and then cause currents to flow between them. If any smoke gets into the chamber between them, it will trigger the fire alarm by disturbing the flow of the ions between the two plates. Photoelectric fire alarms are usually better for smoldering flames. So these fire alarms work by aiming an LED light that goes into a sensing chamber.
