Trick or Treat! Halloween is Nearly Here – Make Sure Your Family Stays Safe

Halloween can be one of the most fun times of the year. Candy, costumes, hayrides, bobbing for apples: these activities are all synonymous with the holiday. Hard Fire Suppression Systems knows all about how to keep our customers and their properties safe and secure, and we’d like to share some of our knowledge with you.

One of the best sources of information is the National Fire Protection Association. Here is a rundown of some of the tips:

  •  Make sure any materials you use for your costume or your kids’ costumes is not flammable. Try to avoid long-trailing or billowing fabric too.
  • If you or your kids are wearing a mask, make sure the eye holes are large enough that they can be seen through them clearly.
  • Do not allow your children to carry lit candles while they trick-or-treat. Instead, use a flashlight.
  • Remember that cornstalks, crepe paper and similar materials are all very flammable. Keep them away from all sources of open flames like candles and bonfires.
  • Use a battery-operated candle or flashlight inside of a Jack-o’-lantern.
  • Teach your children how to react if their clothing catches on fire: STOP, DROP AND ROLL!

If you follow these tips this Halloween, you and your loved ones should be safe and secure. With this information, you can prepare yourself, your home and your kids and have a safe and fun Halloween!
